OUTDOOR POOL

A change has been ordered for the construction of Pierre’s new outdoor pool. Translucent bands and shapes will be added to the two slides that have tunnels.

“This will allow some light into the slides to prevent the rider from literally being in the dark for the duration of the ride,” said Gidget Palmer, City of Pierre Project Manager.

Some architectural features were also approved for several concrete structures and the retaining wall that wraps around the project.

WASH BAY

The City of Pierre wants to build a wash bay for its large equipment and is putting the project out for bid.

The plans place the drive-through wash bay adjacent to the City’s existing street shop on Dakota Avenue. The bay would be used to clean plows, graders, side dumps and other large city-owned equipment.

City Utilities Director Brad Palmer says the bay is about more than aesthetics.

“Keeping the equipment clean is a maintenance issue,” said Palmer. “We extend the life of the equipment by removing salt and other corrosive materials from their exterior.”

Currently, the City washes and stores the equipment within the street shop. According to Palmer, that causes additional issues.

“The moisture coming off the plows after a snow storm, or even after a good wash produces more moisture than that building is equipped to handle. It’s causing corrosion issues,” said Palmer.

Wash bay project bids are due to the City on April 13.
