Senator Mike Rounds, who represents South Dakota in the U.S. Senate, posted a series of messages on September 11, 2025, reflecting on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and highlighting his recent meetings with members of the South Dakota National Guard and healthcare professionals.
In a post marking the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Senator Rounds stated on September 11: "Every year since the tragic events of the September 11 terrorist attacks, we pause to remember.
We remember all those Americans who lost their lives, the brave first responders who ran toward danger, and those everyday citizens who became heroes in the most unimaginable".
Later that day, Senator Rounds shared an update about meeting with members of his state's National Guard deployed to Washington, D.C. On September 11 he wrote: "Had the opportunity to meet the South Dakota National Guard members who are currently deployed to Washington, D.C. to help make the city safe again. A big thank you to this crew and all those assisting in cleaning up D.C. - it has made a difference!"
In another post from September 11, Senator Rounds discussed healthcare workforce support following a conversation with Crystal Enstad from the Oncology Nursing Society: "Sat down with Crystal Enstad, a member of the Oncology Nursing Society this week to discuss palliative care education for our healthcare work force and how we can support them at the federal level. Thank you for all you do to support oncology patients in South Dakota."
Senator Rounds has served as one of South Dakota's senators since 2015 and is known for his focus on national security issues as well as supporting local military personnel and health initiatives.
