CITY ACCEPTS ONE BID, REQUESTS ANOTHER
In two separate moves, the Pierre City Commission accepted a bid to resurface the Aquatic Center pool, and requested proposals for street paving.
AQUATIC CENTER
The Commission approved a $208,500 proposal from Horizon Commercial Pools to resurface the City-owned indoor pool located in the Aquatic Center at the Oahe Family YMCA. Old plaster from the pool basin will be removed and replaced with new plaster that is expected to last more than 20 years. “Once the work is complete, the brown staining on the pool basin will be gone, and the pool should look like new,” said Bryan Tipton, City Parks and Recreation Director. The pool will need to be closed during the resurfacing process. Work is expected to begin in late March and take about one month.
STREET PAVING
At the Feb. 14 commission meeting, the Pierre City Commission also approved a request to bid enough asphalt to resurface more than 40 blocks of city street during the upcoming construction season. “We have an ambitious street construction plan again this year,” said Nick Waters, Staff Engineer. “Budget and time are always our two biggest constraints; we have our fingers crossed that both will fall in our favor. ”Paving proposals are due back to the City by March 2.
