Rawlins Library: November Programming

This November marks Rawlins Library’s 50th Anniversary at its current location on Church Street. Throughout the month, the Library will host 50th Anniversary activities as well as traditional programming. 

50TH ANNIVERSARY: ART COMPETITION

Before Nov. 30, submit a drawing of Rawlins Library on Church Street. The winning design will be featured on Rawlins Library Cards. All submitted artwork will be displayed as part of Rawlins 50th Anniversary celebration. Artist must be 8 years or older.

50TH ANNIVERSARY: PHOTO EXHIBIT

NOV. 7-12

Take a walk through the history of Rawlins Library. There will be a display of historic library photos dating back to 1972.

50TH ANNIVERSARY: CAKE AND COFFEE

NOV. 14, 10:30 A.M.

Join library staff and Pierre Mayor Steve Harding for cake and coffee and celebrations of next 50 years of service from Rawlins Library.

50TH ANNIVERSARY: REMEMBERING RAWLINS

NOV. 14-19

Share your memories of Rawlins Library by adding to the Rawlins Library scrapbook. It will be on display for patrons to see other’s memories and share their own.

NOV. 21-25

Listen for library trivia live on KGFX between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. If you know the answer, call in and win! 

BOOKS FOR THE HOMEBOUND

Rawlins Library provides library material delivery service to the homebound, as well as those in skilled nursing facilities. If you need a book a delivery, make a request by calling 605.773.7421.

ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAY NIGHTS)

NOV. 1, 8, & 29, 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.

The Club will read Neither Wolf Nor Dog. Water and coffee are provided to participants.

AUTHOR TALK

TUESDAY, NOV. 1, 1:00 P.M.

South Dakota author Brenda Donelan will talk about her book Day of the Dead. The novel is inspired by the true story of a Northern State University professor who died under suspicious conditions on Nov. 1, 2004.

FIRST FRIDAY FREE PLAY

FRIDAY, NOV. 4, 1 P.M., 4:00 P.M.

Rawlins Library has many assets for you to experiment and learn with. Try out the puppets, white boards, games, gadgets and more.

LEGO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

MONDAY, NOV. 7, 3:15 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

Grab a friend or family member for Lego-building fun at Rawlins Library. The program is open to elementary school age kids.

VETERAN’S DAY PROGRAM

MONDAY, NOV. 7, 12:00 P.M.

Guest speaker Elton Blemaster will share the story of his military career including his service as a member of the U.S. Airforce and experiences with the Space Shuttle and Stealth Bomber. The program is free and open to the public.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GAME DAY

TUESDAY, NOV. 8, 3:45 P.M. – 4:45 P.M.

It’s all about fun and games after school at Rawlins Library. Grab a friend and join others for an afternoon of board games. This program is for middle school aged students.

MYSTERY GAME NIGHT

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 9, 6 P.M. – 8 P.M.

People 18 and over are invited to Rawlins Library for a game of “Who done it.” RSVP by contacting the library at 605.773.7421.

READ TO PUMPKIN PYE

SATURDAY, NOV. 12, 10 A.M. – 11 A.M.

Early readers have a chance to read to Pumpkin Pye. The canine listener is provided by Therapy Dogs International and handler Elaine Pye.

BOOK SALE

NOV. 14 -19

Load up on books with the Friends of the Library Book Sale. $3 for a bag of books or .25 each. Proceeds go toward library programming. No credit or debit cards accepted.

QUILTED CREATIONS

FRIDAY, NOV. 18, 1 P.M.  

Local quilters Patti Heintz, Sharon Nuttall, Pat Weeldreyer, Elizabeth Vogt, and Jenny Williams will display some of the quilts they have created and discuss how they became interested in the craft.  The program is free and open to the public.
