Every day in October, On Hand Development Corporation is putting a spotlight on a woman in Hand County who owns her own business. Our hope is to showcase some of the amazing women in our community that have owned or currently own small businesses and their impact on our community.
Today, we are highlighting Sharon Spangler owner of the Hairport. Sharon started the Hairport with Sheri Koeck in 1978 and went on her own in 1984. She has been in business for 37 years! The opportunity arose to buy the Hairport and Sharon thought she would take the dive! She was a little nervous when she first started but then went with her gut feeling and her gut was right.
We asked Sharon what she loves most about owning her own business and she said, “After all the hard work, I can say it’s mine and have no one to blame but myself!”
What advice would you give to another female wanting to start a business? “You CAN do it!”
Every great entrepreneur gets inspiration from someone. Sharon got a lot of inspiration from her closest friends and some family.
Sharon says the best part of doing business in Hand County is her clients. “I have gotten to know and become great friends with so many. They’ve provided the opportunity to serve them over the 37 years.”
“When we moved to Miller in 1978, I sure didn’t think we would be here for long. Its been our home, we’ve raised 3 girls and now they are married and we now have 8 grandkids. It’s been quite a ride! Thanks, Miller!”
