MCC Student Isabella Doles Named Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Winner

McHenry County College (MCC) student and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) member Isabella Doles has been named a 2022 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Winner. As part of the award, Doles will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship program provides new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled in an associate degree program. The program awards up to 200 scholarships of $1,000 each, a total of $200,000 in scholarships annually. Of these awards, 25 scholarships are earmarked for current members of the military or military veterans.

“This generous scholarship will allow me to continue my studies full-time while pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot,” said Doles. “I’m so thankful to the Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship program and PTK for supporting my educational and career goals. I never thought someone would see this much potential in me.”

In addition to her studies at MCC, Doles takes pilot training courses at Lake in the Hills airport and works 30 hours per week at two part-time jobs. She graduated high school at just 16 years old and plans on obtaining a bachelor’s degree in international business in addition to becoming a commercial airline pilot. She is fluent in Mandarin and plans to fly and possibly live internationally. She is an active volunteer in many local organizations, and is also a 2022 Education to Empowerment Scholarship Recipient.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.

The Chi Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at McHenry County College has over 400 members, with over 25 students actively participating each semester. The chapter has recently earned awards at both international and regional levels and is currently the Most Distinguished Chapter in Illinois. In 2020, students designed projects to help fellow students and community members cope with the stress of learning and working from home during the pandemic.
