October is Women's Small Business Month.

October is Women's Small Business Month.

Every day in October, On Hand Development Corporation is putting a spotlight on a woman in Hand County who owns her own business. Our hope is to showcase some of the amazing women in our community that have owned or currently own small businesses and their impact on our community.

Today, we are featuring Sierra Briggs owner of Blush Beauty. Sierra graduated in May of 2018 from Lake area Tech. After graduating, she found a job in Pierre and was commuting every day until she had the opportunity to start a salon of her own here in Miller. She opened Blush Beauty in November of that year, so next month she will be celebrating 4 years.

Right after graduation she started booth renting, which is basically like having your own business but just sharing the space you are in with other stylists. Once she heard that there was a two week wait to get into a salon in Miller, she wanted to help out the community so she moved her business here and got to work.

We asked Sierra what she loves most about owning her own business and she said, “Being my own boss is a dream when it comes to being able to do things the way I like in the salon. I can be independent and creative in many ways.”

What advice would you give to another female wanting to start a business, “Do it! Absolutely do it! It will be hard at first and you will need a strong support system but once you get going, you won't look back.”

Sierra says the best part of doing business in Hand County is the people, “Everyone here is so nice and supportive. It's a great sized community to be a part of and live in. I love my clients for coming back, time after time again. I really couldn't do it without them.”

“I would like to let anyone know I offer many hair, skin, and nail services. Everything from manicures, pedicures, facials to almost every hair service. I am open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to reach out and ask! (605)295-1822”
