Rawlins Library: October Programming

RAWLINS LIBRARY: OCTOBER PROGRAMMING

Rawlins Library is scaring up mysteries, supernatural activity, and Halloween fun this October.

TEEN PHOTO CHALLENGE

OCT. 1 – 31

During the month of October, Compose a picture featuring Black and White, Lighting and Special Effects, and Nature in Your Neighborhood images. Then, for a chance to win the competition, submit one image per category to Rawlins Library via a PM on Facebook or rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us. The contest is open to 6th – 12th graders who live in either Hughes or Stanley County. 

PUBLIC POWER STORY TIME

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 5, 10:15 A.M., 10:45 A.M.

Hear City of Pierre Lineman Landon Starks read a story about electricity and receive your very own If I Were a Lineworker book.

Hear City of Pierre Lineman Jason Anderson read a story about electricity and receive your very own If I Were a Lineworker book.

NATIVE AMERICAN DISPLAY

OCT. 3 – 14

An education kit featuring the Dakota, Nakota, and Lakota cultures will be on display in recognition of Native American Day. The kit is on loan from the South Dakota State Historical Society.

YOUNG ADULT BOOK CLUB (MONDAY AFTERNOONS)

OCT. 3, 17, & 24, 3:30 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

The Club will read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Water and popcorn are provided to participants. To reserve a book or join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call, or sign up in person.

ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAY NIGHTS)

OCT. 4, 11, 18, & 25, 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.

The Club will read Where the Crawdads Sing. Water and coffee are provided to participants. To reserve a book or join the club, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call, or sign up in person.

 

FIRE SAFETY AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

TUESDAY, OCT. 4, 3:45 P.M. – 4:45 P.M.

Tour a fire truck, learn about fire safety, and hear what it’s like to fight fires from one of Pierre’s volunteer firefighters. All ages are welcome! 

 

READ TO PUMPKIN PYE

SATURDAY, OCT. 8, 10 A.M. – 11 A.M.

Early readers have a chance to read to Pumpkin Pye. The canine listener is provided by Therapy Dogs International and handler Elaine Pye.

 

LEGO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

TUESDAY, OCT. 11, 3:45 P.M. – 4:45 P.M.

Grab a friend or family member for Lego-building fun at Rawlins Library. The program is open to people between the ages of 0 and 100.

 

DEMENTIA CAREGIVER WORKSHOP

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 12, 2 P.M. – 3 P.M.

Learn the basics of providing care to someone who has dementia and learn about resources available to caregivers. The event is presented by Monarch Dementia Caregiver Services. The program is free and open to the public.

 

AFTER SCHOOL GAME DAY

THURSDAY, OCT. 20, 3:45 P.M. – 4:45 P.M.

It’s all about fun and games after school at Rawlins Library. Grab a friend and join others for an afternoon of game playing.

Bring your own pumpkin and pumpkin carving tools to make a Jack o’lantern at Rawlins Library.   Snacks provided. 18 and up.

MYSTERY GAME NIGHT

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 26, 6 P.M. – 8 P.M.

People 18 and over are invited to Rawlins Library for a game of “Who done it.” RSVP by contacting the library at 605.773.7421.

 

SPOOKY STORIES

FRIDAY, OCT. 28, 1 P.M.

Local entrepreneur Ron Lutz will spin tales about his experiences with the supernatural. The program is free and open to the public.

 

HALLOWEEN STORYTIME

SATURDAY, OCT. 29, 9:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M., 9:30 A.M. – 10 A.M.

Wear a costume, hear Halloween stories, and make a craft. Trick or treating available 9 AM to Noon. Ages 0 to 100 are welcome.

Put on your costume and come to Rawlins Library for Halloween treats… or tricks!
