Get Your Tickets for the July 30th George Strait Tribute! This Fundraiser Keeps our Faulk County Transit Bus in Business!

It’s that time of year again! The Faulk County Community Transit Authority is holding its final — and arguably its best — fundraiser of the summer: The Gordy & Debbie George Strait Tribute on July 30 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Tickets are just $20 and available in advance at Faulkton Drug or by contacting Jan Melius at 605-380-5733. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the concert.

This night is not just about being entertained by Gordy & Debbie, Branson's multi-award-winning duo and the stars of the popular Branson show, "A Tribute to George Strait Dinner Show." It’s about supporting the community. Since its beginnings in the summer of 2019, the Faulk County Community Transit Authority has proven to be an essential service for Faulkton area residents. Each month, the transit bus serves between 300 and 500 riders to greatly enhance the quality of life in Faulk County.

Between 85 and 90 percent of transit patrons are youth getting rides to and from school, daycares, and the library. During the summers of 2021 and 2022, the transit bus has been the primary transportation for the Faulkton Area Out of School Program (FAOSP). In July of this year alone, over 1000 rides transported children to swim lessons, library sessions, and for the older kids, golf lessons at the local golf course. The Faulk County Community Transit is a boon and a lifesaver for busy area parents.

Although Faulkton’s transit receives some federal grant funds, the transit authority is responsible for 50 percent of the operating costs and 20 percent of the administrative costs. Fundraisers like the George Strait Tribute show and the recent gun raffle and pancake breakfast help to keep the “bus in business!”  The local committee is grateful that the Faulkton community always shows great interest and participation.

With an eye to the future, plans for a garage for the bus are in development. The transit committee is exploring the possibility of renovating an existing structure to save considerable costs compared to building new. The committee also hopes to eventually expand the service to the entire county, which positions purchasing another bus or van as a goal.

So what can you expect on July 30 as you help out the Transit Authority reach its goals? Settle in for more of the entertainment and good times the country western duo delivered with their hit “Legends” show last summer. With their mid-west charm shining through, they have been in the business of entertaining people for over 25 years! Gordy was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while Debbie hails from Kimball, South Dakota.

A Tribute to George Strait is the show that takes you on a journey through the life and music of King George Strait.  He has 60 number one hits, the most of any artist of any genre of music! Gordy performs some of his biggest hits and shares some of the stories behind the songs, such as George's first single, his first number one hit, and how George got his big break that launched him into stardom! What is Debbie's part in all this, you may ask? Debbie shares her own stories about George and features music in the show from some of the female artists that have opened for George Strait through the years, like Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride. She also provides the beautiful backup vocals for Gordy on George's songs!

Gordy and Debbie have even personally met with George Strait and had the opportunity to visit with him about this very show that pays tribute to his life and music! What does George think of this? He thought it was great and told them to keep doing it! Some of the songs you'll hear at this show are Amarillo By Morning, The Chair, All My Ex's Live In Texas, Ocean Front Property, Give It Away, I Cross My Heart, plus many, many more!  This show is sure to please George Strait fans and anyone who just loves good country music!
