Pierre Resident Awaiting Transplant Shares Story

Her father, as well as five of her aunts and uncles have had kidney transplants. Now Pierre healthcare provider Dr. Jenna Wickersham is waiting for a kidney transplant of her own.

Dr. Wickersham will share her story at Rawlins Library at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

Wickersham’s family suffers from a hereditary kidney condition called polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Clusters of cysts develop within the kidneys, causing the kidneys to enlarge and eventually lose function.

“Dr. Wickersham plans to discuss the experiences of her family members, her personal experience, and the kidney condition itself,” said Dorinda Daniel, Rawlins Outreach Librarian. “I certainly encourage anyone who is interested to attend the program. The story is fascinating.”

Rawlins Library is hosting the program in recognition of National Organ / Tissue Donor Awareness Week. It is open to the public; attendees are not required to register.
