Senator Mike Rounds, a United States Senator from South Dakota, recently shared several updates via his official social media account. The posts addressed the passing of a former colleague, internship opportunities for students, and discussions with local community organizations.

On July 13, 2025, Senator Rounds expressed condolences regarding the death of a former state legislator. He stated: “Sad to hear of the passing of former state legislator Mike Diedrich following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mike was a good friend and my seat mate for two years while serving in the legislature together. His work representing Rapid City and our state made South”.

The following day, on July 14, 2025, Senator Rounds encouraged college students to apply for internships in his offices across South Dakota and Washington DC. He wrote: “Calling all college students interested in serving South Dakota! Applications for our fall semester internships are due on July 15. Interns are located in our Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls or Washington DC offices. Visit my website for more information or to apply:”.

Later that same day, Senator Rounds discussed meeting with leaders from United Way organizations throughout South Dakota. In his post he said: “Met with leaders from South Dakota’s United Way organizations in Pierre, Rapid City and Yankton. Appreciated our conversation about funding for early childhood education and AmeriCorps.”

Senator Mike Rounds has served as U.S. Senator since 2015 and previously held office as Governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011.
