Explore International Relations, Rival Politics at MCC's Latest Experts and Insights Speaker Series

It seems like China and Iran are in the news all the time—but have you ever wanted to better understand why the actions taken in these countries matter to us? Learn how a changing international political landscape can affect us on a local level at McHenry County College’s latest Experts and Insights educational speaker series “Rival Politics: China and Iran” Thursday, November 17 at 6 p.m. The session will be presented by political science instructor Ribhi Salhi, Ph.D.

“Attendees will go beyond the boundaries of the classroom to learn more about rival powers like Iran and China,” said Salhi. “We’ll discuss their respective revolutions (Iran's Revolution of Dispossessed and China's Revolution of People), learn how they ended up with authoritarian systems, and explain where the US stands on a variety of issues. Understanding the history of these two nations will help us better understand their global political behavior.”

Ribhi Salhi, Ph.D. is a faculty member in the Political Science Department at MCC. Since starting with the College in 2008, he has taught classes in Comparative Government, International Relations, U.S. Foreign Policy, International Terrorism, and U.S. Government. He received his Ph.D. in Public Policies and Administration from Walden University, his M.A. in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, and an M.A in International Relations from Roosevelt University.

The session is free and open to the public. Registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome.

Interested participants can register and learn more at www.mchenry.edu/experts. If you need an accommodation or a sign language interpreter, please contact MCC’s Access and Disability Services department at (815) 455-8766 or disabilityservices@mchenry.edu.
