The Friends of McHenry County College (MCC) Foundation’s annual MCC Day of Giving will be held Thursday, November 17. During this college-wide day of philanthropy, alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, friends, and the community are encouraged to donate to support the Student Success Fund at MCC.
The Student Success Fund helps MCC students with financial support to handle unexpected and unique emergency expenses such as medical bills, essential vehicle repair, technology needs, or utility bills. Through this fund, the College aims to improve retention when unforeseen circumstances may impact a student’s ability to stay in college and complete their educational goals.
“The most common sentiment we hear from our students is how grateful they are for the support of the community,” said Brian DiBona, Executive Director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “Your donations show them there is a whole group of people who believe in them and their goals. During the Day of Giving, we’re aiming to raise $5,000 to help these students tackle any financial obstacles outside of tuition that make them feel like they can’t continue with school.”
The Foundation has awarded more than $46,500 from the Student Success Fund so far in 2022 alone. More than $152,000 in emergency funding has been awarded to students since the Fund’s inception in 2017.
The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports MCC students, and is the sole organization authorized to raise private funds on behalf of the College. In addition to the Student Success Fund, the Foundation offers hundreds of student scholarships; operates Education to Empowerment, a scholarship and mentoring program for female students; and manages the College’s Alumni Association and related alumni events.
